Volunteer Coordinator

Secure, train, assign, supervise and recognize competent women and men to deliver volunteer services to home care and hospice patients of the VNA of Somerset Hills and its subsidiaries (VNA). To secure, train, assign, supervise and recognize competent women and men to deliver Friendly Visitor Volunteer services to appropriate residents of Somerset and Morris counties who have been referred by staff or various community based programs.


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of volunteer leadership or other management experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the communities served by the VNA
  • Training experience preferred

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to put into action the VNA commitment to utilization of volunteers
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality


  • Provide hospice/homecare and Friendly Visitor volunteer training to handle attrition and/or add to total number of active volunteers needed to meet requests
  • Assign volunteers as per referrals
  • Manage and nurture ongoing volunteer assignments
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer utilization
  • Provide quarterly statistical report of hospice/homecare volunteer activity
  • Provide a yearly Volunteer Activity Report for VNA volunteer programs
  • Provide a forum for ongoing education for volunteers throughout the year that would include informal networking and support opportunities at least three times per year
  • Provide and document supervision of Hospice/Home Care volunteers on a yearly basis
  • Arrange yearly recognition events
  • Maintain professional relationships with other community volunteer programs when appropriate
  • Carry out other duties as assigned
