Boy Scout Builds Arbor for Hospice Garden
Steven McInerney of Basking Ridge, NJ, has fulfilled his Eagle Scout service project requirement with the construction and installation of an arbor at the VNA of Somerset Hills headquarters in Basking Ridge, NJ. The arbor graces the entrance to the beautiful hospice garden at the VNA, a nonprofit home care agency providing home health, hospice, adult day and community outreach services. McInerney is a member of Basking Ridge Troop 555, part of the Patriots’ Path Council.
McInerney developed an interest in the VNA of Somerset Hills through his grandmother, Barbara McInerney, a long-time volunteer and supporter of the organization and its Adult Day Center. After discussing project options with Marie Sperber, VNA Vice President of Business Development & Philanthropy, they agreed that replacing the old and heavily damaged hospice garden arbor would be an excellent and meaningful choice. For Steven, the leadership, communication and construction skills necessary to complete his project provided a valuable learning experience for which he is grateful.
“We are very appreciative that Steven chose the VNA of Somerset Hills as recipient of his service project,” said Sperber. “Throughout the process, we have been impressed by his planning and quality of work. It’s been a pleasure working together.”
